The life of bison is not something very many children are familiar with and this book will open their eyes to some history, some animal habits, some human nature, and the beauty of that large magnificent animal.Kicks is a book I enjoyed reading very much, not only because of who the author is but because it kept me coming back for more...What would Kicks do is this situation? What would he do next? How will he make it on his own? Not many children get to experience life on the farm which teaches so many good values and principles. My son would have loved this book when he was in the 3rd grade because he was raised in the country and has good values and principles. Now he is grown and I gifted it to him, so we will see what he thinks now.
I recommend this book for every school and public library. It would be an excellent book for a grandparent to read to their grandchildren.

Very well written. Story was told through the eyes of an old cowboy. Dylan makes you feel like your in the book. Great read for young and old. The author needs to write a sequal. Bravo for the author's first time out.
Kicks is a sweet story that is both entertaining and educational. I enjoyed it very much as an adult but it is appropriate for older children, who I believe would be riveted by the story. There is much excitment and danger as the little bison grows up in a changing world and a surprising end to the story.
